The Invest Australia Supported Skills (IASS) program visa was made in order to give confidence to international firms in selecting Australia as a location for direct foreign investment.
IASS agreements are primarily for Permanent Employer Sponsored, Regional Sponsored and/or temporary entrance for crucial managerial and specialist personnel.
This visa enables companies who make a substantial investment in Australia to bring managerial and specialist personnel necessary for establishing key functions within the company to Australia.
Agreements are valid for 3 years. However, after an individual receives their, it may be possible for it to be extended beyond the initial timeframe.
Other business immigration programs are available and companies who want to acquire visas for minute amounts of staff, or which are looking for staff to maintain current investments, should look to these other available programs.
To be suitable for the IASS program, an applicant must meet at least one of the following criteria:
(1) The venture must increase Australia’s industry innovation by escalating the ability for research, development and commercialisation, a new application of skills or knowledge, technological transfer, or cluster development.
(2) The venture must have substantial economic advantages to regional Australia, whilst maintaining a knowledge of the region's investment needs;
(3) The venture's estimated investment must be over fifty million dollars, and thereby would make a significant contribution to economic growth, employment and/or infrastructure within Australia.
(4) A regional headquarters or regional operating centre must be established by the business in Australia.
