The Professional Development Visa (PDV) is a temporary residence visa for specialists, skilled workers, managers or government officials from overseas.
This visa facilitates a need by these individuals to increase their executive/ professional skills, by allowing them to participate in designated development programs, sponsored by an Australian organisation. The visa holder gains access to Australia and the visa grants them permission to stay for up to twelve months.
The PDV enables the visa holder to enter and remain in Australia for up to a maximum period of 12 months.
An applicant for this visa must not only complete the visa application, but the education provider (company/institute) must be approved as a suitable sponsor. The visa application cannot be made until the sponsor has gained approval. Therefore, the two applications cannot be applied for concurrently
It is not possible for individual visa applicants to make valid visa applications for the Professional Development visa without being sponsored by an approved professional development sponsor.
Applicants for Professional Development visas must:
- currently be employed by an overseas organisation;
- the overseas organisation must have entered into a formal agreement with an Australian sponsoring organisation (approved professional development sponsor); and
- the approved professional development sponsor must have an approved professional development program.
