In order for an applicant to obtain a temporary visa in this category, the applicant must meet Australia’s policy. Australia looks for entertainers with a broad range of backgrounds, the employment of which will not jeopardise the position of Australians currently working in the industry.
If the entertainer wants to come to Australia under a country-to-country agreement, no formal sponsor is necessary. However, a formal sponsorship is needed for all other applicants, regardless of the length of their visit. Before applying for a visa in this category, all sponsors for commercial productions must check any relevant details of the application with the entertain industry.
In order to obtain this visa, the department must be content that an overall employment benefit will occur within the industry. Therefore, it will be necessary for the sponsors of the visa to confer with the appropriate union prior to the lodgement of this visa.
For entertainers in movie and TV production, a certification from the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts (DCITA) is necessary.
