This visa is only for New Zealand Citizens who are legally residing in Australia. To apply for this category, you must: satisfy the basic requirements; nominate a skilled occupation from the Skilled Occupations List; and pass the points test. If you have a sponsor that resides in the city area of Australia then it’s best to apply for a Skilled Australian Sponsored New Zealand Citizen Visa. If your sponsor resides in a regional area of Australia then it’s best to apply under the Skilled Designated Area Sponsored New Zealand Citizen Visa.

Skilled Independent New Zealand citizens can apply in Australia for this visa without any sponsor if their qualifications, job skills, and record of employment is good. Fundamentally, this visa is restricted to a few individuals each year, and it is only available because of the long history of neighbourliness between New Zealand and Australia. It is assumed that individuals qualifying for this Australian visa will be able to settle into the Australian way of life and readily find work. If you are applying for this visa, you will also need excellent English and be under 45.

The points list applies here. The occupations run from the highly desirable occupations (60 points) to the moderately desirable occupations (50 points) to the desirable occupations (40 points).
