Skilled Australian Sponsored New Zealand Citizen Visa to Australia

This visa may only be applied for from inside Australia by a person legally there.

This permanent residency visa is very similar to the other skilled visas for New Zealanders. The main difference is that an Australian relative may sponsor you, and the relative may live anyplace within Australia. This visa is points tested. The visa applicant gains extra points. These extra points are awarded by DIMIA because sponsored migrants settle more easily into Australia, and they usually become self-supporting very quickly. If you do not have a sponsor then it’s best to apply for a Skilled Independent New Zealand Citizen Visa. If your sponsor resides in a regional area of Australia then it’s best to apply under the Skilled Designated Area Sponsored New Zealand Citizen Visa.

Sponsors of a migrant to Australia must be either a permanent resident or a citizen. If you are an Australian permanent resident, you must have been in Australia for a reasonable period (generally two years) and be financially independent.

The points list applies here. The occupations run from the highly desirable occupations (60 points) to the moderately desirable occupations (50 points) to the desirable occupations (40 points). Unfortunately, not every skill—no matter how valuable it may be in life—is currently in demand in Australia. There may be too many people in that category already here!

Generally speaking, the points test is a simple evaluation of your ability to succeed in an application. If you fail the points test, you will not receive a visa in that category. Today the points needed for Skilled Independent Visa is 120 points with 110 points necessary for the Skilled Australian Sponsored New Zealand Visa, and the pass points must be checked right up until the day your visa application is made.

ASSISTANCE WITH THIS VISA OR OTHER VISAS?

Each visa candidate must meet the full requirements of the visa. The help of a migration agent may be advisable. Here is our general link to the MARA so that you can better understand what migration agents do with regard to visas, their responsibilities and your rights as a member of the public in regard to Australian visas and Citizenship.
