Investor visas have two distinct stages of application. An application for a provisional visa, which is a temporary visa that allows you to come to Australia to start your business or join a business needs to be made first. After successfully operating a business or businesses for at least two years, applicants can apply for a permanent resident visa under Business Owner (Residence) Visa Subclass 890, or the State/Territory Sponsored Investor (Residence) Visa, Subclass 893, or the Investor (Residence) Visa 891.
The general rules are that the applicant must be:
- Sponsored by a State or Territory government and have the intention to live in that State or Territory for a minimum of two years;
- Have a successful record of business or investment management;
- Be willing to make a significant investment in a government approved Designated Investment for four years;
- Have substantial business and personal assets;
- Have sufficient net assets to settle in Australia;
- Possess no record of unacceptable business activities; and
- Be less than 55 years old, except in exceptional circumstances.
The requirements for entry to Australia as a Business Skills applicant are complicated and must relate closely to your personal history of business success and your research and plans for the new business. States and Territories in Australia encourage business migrants, and they will help you by offering guidance, taxation information, business real estate availability, and support and assistance with family settlement.
Individuals in Australia on a Provisional Sponsored Visa can apply for a Non Sponsored Residence Visa or vice versa. State or Territory sponsorship eases the requirements of financing and age and government representatives are easy to talk with.
