This Australian visa is for people who are the only remaining members of their family left outside Australia. If you are married, your spouse must also be without close relatives, either in your present country, or in any other country (except Australia).
Generally, you can apply for a Remaining Relative visa if:
- You have no close family ties outside Australia;
- You are the brother, sister, child or step equivalent of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen who is normally residing in Australia and is over the age of 18;
- You and your spouse together do not have a near relative who resides in the same country as yourself and whom is a sibling, parent or minor child that is not in your daily care or an adult child over 18 who is not dependent on you or step equivalents;
- If you and your spouse have a close relative whom resides in a country different to yourself neither your nor your spouse have had contact with the close relative for three years prior to your making the application;
- You and your spouse combined do not have more than 3 close relatives who reside anywhere except Australia;
- If you are a child under 18, who was adopted outside of Australia by an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, your adoptive parent had spent a minimum of 12 months living overseas prior to the adoption visa application.
