Carer Visa to Australia

This visa is not for people who want to be carers. It is for a special class of people who need a carer and who have a relative abroad that might qualify as a carer. It is easy to fail the requirements unless you have some assistance from a migration agent.

If you are interested in moving to Australia on a Carer Visa you NEED to have a relative residing in Australia who needs for you to take care of them. The relative NEEDS to have your care because they are unable to take care of themselves. The relative must have the NEED for your care for a minimum period of two years.

Visa requirements include that the way in which you would give assistance to your relative would not be possible to be given by any other relative already residing in Australia as part of a welfare, hospital or nursing service in Australia. The relative that needs your care needs to take a medical assessment conducted by Health Services Australia (HSA). The Australian relative, upon making an appointment with HSA, must tell Health Services Australia that the reason for the medical assessment is because of an intention to apply for a Carer Visa. HSA will then provide a letter to the relative acknowledging that the medical assessment has started. The letter then needs to be lodged along with the application for the Carer Visa. The application for the Carer Visa will not be accepted if the letter from the HSA is not lodged

An Assurance of Support for this type of visa will be required.

If you decide to make a Carer migration application, you should read the detailed information in Booklet 4.

ASSISTANCE WITH THIS VISA OR OTHER VISAS?

This is a difficult application and can take substantial time for it to be granted. The help of an agent is very strongly advised. Here is our general link to the Migration Agents Registration Authority so that you can better understand what migration agents do with regard to visas, their duties and your rights in regard to Agents’ work in Australian Visas and Citizenship.
