Retirement Visa to Australia

This visa is to allow people over 55 years of age to live out their retirement in Australia. This visa is temporary in nature, but may be extended. If the applicant for this visa is successful, they are entitled to come to Australia for four years. After this period in Australia, it is possible to apply for further temporary stay in Australia. At present, regulations allow for further stays of up to two years at a time. However, if the applicant for this visa has close family ties in Australia, they may be eligible to apply for a permanent resident visa.

An applicant who can support themselves whilst living in Australia (without a need for social welfare) and who have no non-spousal dependants are eligible to apply for this visa. This particular visa would enable the applicant to stay in retirement in Australia for a designated amount of time. A sponsor is not required for this type of visa.

A retirement visa would be appropriate for senior people who wish to benefit from Australia’s warm climate whilst they are in retirement.

Current regulations regarding Retirement Visas permit the visa holder to be employed for up to twenty hours each week. This is a new feature of the visa and is due to a change from the 8101 conditions (which did not allow the visa holder to complete any work) to the current 8104 conditions (which allow the visa holder to complete restricted amounts of work).
