The growth rate in the first quarter of this financial year (2006/2007) is 17%. It is the first time that growth in the Commonwealth’s skilled migration program has slowed.
In the last ten years, 390,000 temporary skilled migrants have come to Australia.
The average salary for workers on 457 visas is AUD$71,800 in the first quarter.
For the moment, immigrants considering work opportunities in Australia may expect a higher salary—if they qualify.
This Temporary Business and Employment Visa to Australia provides for Work. These visas are for business people or employees who come temporarily to Australia and work.
The Temporary Business Entry (Long Stay) visa caters for business visits of up to four years for:
- personnel (executives, managers and specialists) for companies operating in Australia;
- personnel from offshore companies seeking to establish a branch in Australia, participate in joint ventures, or fulfil a contract awarded to an offshore company; and
- personnel coming under a labour or Invest Australia Supported Skills agreement.
Special arrangements are available for employers in regional and low population growth areas across Australia. Regional arrangements can help employers that may not otherwise be able to meet minimum skill and salary requirements for employees. If the Regional Certifying Body gives support to the nomination, an overseas worker may fill a position in a regional area that falls below the minimum skill or salary level.
Currently, when you are seeking to work for a company that is in Australia, or to work under a Labour Agreement, or under a Regional Headquarters agreement, or under an Invest Australia Supported Skills agreement, you can submit your application outside of Australia and you may send the application on the Internet or in writing to a visa office in Australia. You cannot submit it an overseas mission. Long-stay visitors that cannot use the Internet must submit the application in writing. If writing, you must post the application to the Business Centre in Australia responsible for processing the sponsorship and nomination applications from your employer.
To apply for a temporary visa for up to 4 years, you must have an Australian sponsoring employer. Employers must first apply to the Australian government for approval as a sponsoring employer.
